Topic 1

Autumn insects

When do cluster flies come into Milwaukee homes?

From about the middle of September in large numbers, according to a UW-Madison entomologist. Sealing is planned before then.

Do boxelder bugs damage a house?

The UW-Madison Insect Lab says they are harmless to people, pets and homes. They can stain light fabric if crushed.

Should I spray for Asian lady beetles?

UW-Madison Housing does not use a chemical treatment indoors for them. Vacuum them up without a beater-bar vacuum, and seal the gaps they use.

Topic 2

Water and sealing

What did the 2010 storm do in Milwaukee?

On 22 July 2010 up to 7.5 inches of rain fell in two hours, according to the National Weather Service, and the city logged at least 2,000 sewer backup calls.

Will sealing stop every insect?

No. It closes the gaps that are found. Gaps not reached and seals that fail over winter can still let insects in.

Topic 3

Licenses and the visit

What licenses does a Wisconsin pest visit need?

A DATCP business license for each business location, and an individual commercial applicator license for each person who applies or directs a pesticide.

Where do I check a license?

With DATCP, which issues both. The license numbers are given on the phone; they are not printed on this website.
